Deck & Pergola Options for San Antonio's Climate

San Antonio's outdoor season runs approximately 9 months. The right materials and design make the difference between a deck you use year-round and one that warps, fades, or requires constant maintenance. C.S.W. Power Solutions recommends materials based on your budget, maintenance preference, and how the structure will be used.

Pressure-Treated Pine

The most affordable option. PT pine is treated to resist rot and insects and performs well in San Antonio's climate. Requires staining or sealing every 2–3 years. Best for budget-conscious projects or structures that will be painted.

Cedar & Redwood

Naturally rot-resistant and visually attractive. Cedar weathers to a silver-gray if left unsealed, or holds stain well. Better dimensional stability than PT pine in Texas heat. Mid-range material with excellent aesthetics.

Composite (Trex, TimberTech)

Premium material, lowest lifetime maintenance. Composite decking won't rot, splinter, or require sealing. Ideal for San Antonio homeowners who want a low-maintenance deck that holds its appearance for 25+ years.

Pergolas & Shade Structures

A pergola adds shade, defines outdoor space, and increases home value. C.S.W. Power Solutions builds pergolas in wood, aluminum, and steel. Aluminum pergolas are the most popular choice in San Antonio — they don't rot, require no painting, and withstand the Texas heat without warping.

We also build attached and freestanding covered patios with solid roofs, louvered panels, and motorized options. All pergola and patio cover projects include in-house electrical for lighting, ceiling fans, and outdoor outlets.

Deck Electrical & Lighting

Most deck builders subcontract electrical work, adding cost and coordination delays. Because C.S.W. Power Solutions has in-house licensed electricians (TECL31793), we wire your deck or pergola as part of the build — no separate electrical contractor required.

Typical deck electrical includes: recessed post lights, string light power, ceiling fan rough-in, GFCI outdoor outlets, and low-voltage landscape lighting. All electrical work is permitted and inspected.

Composite decking (Trex, TimberTech) performs best in San Antonio's heat — it won't warp, fade, or splinter. For budget projects, pressure-treated pine with proper sealing is a solid choice. Cedar is a good mid-range option.
